Rumi Maki Competitors before the Tragedy

The mudslide that produced this tragedy occured in the early hours of March 1st - leaving 8 deaths, hundreds of homes destroyed and hundreds of families affected.

Several members of the Rumi Maki Karate Club lost their homes remaining only with the clothes on their back. The president of the Rumi Maki Karate Club, Roman Vizcarra, lost his home that is filled with sand, mud, rocks and tree truncks up to 1.5 m. The dojo is about to collapse, the foundations are completely soaked through and it is full of mud, casuing the structure to lean. It is too dangerous to use for practice. Many sport implements have been lost as well: Tatami, punch bags, shields, gloves, karatgies - all that were aquired with so much sacrifice through special events and activities. Our goal is to reconstruct and protect our local with protective walls using adequate materials and design.

These structures have always been and will always be for those who love and practice karate and martial arts in the small paradise of Taray.

Brother and sister karatecas, we appeal to your sensitivity and solidarity – and to all with good hearts – to rebuild our dojo and support these students who come from very humble families - descendeants of farmers dedicated to agriculture and crafts.
